Life With Patrick
Little paws enter my home and my heart.
By Lina Musick 1997
April 6, 1997 a little bundle of joy entered my heart and my home. Yes, you could heart the pitter-patter of little paws running through the apartment.

Sir Patrick Heart, Pat for short, is a full blood Cocker Spaniel and was born in February 10, 1997. Since he is from Wooly Cocker Breed his hair would be long and curly if allowed to grow naturally. Pat’s coloring reminds me of a dessert…Hershey Chocolate with white swirl and a touch of butter scotch on his paws. The breeders nicknamed him Heart because of patch of fur on his left hindquarters that looks like a chocolate heart.

Pat was one of five male puppies born to Lady Magdalen and Sir Arthur Hunter. When I went to pick out my puppy it seemed like an impossible task….they were all so cute and loveable. I think I must have gotten the pick of the litter…Pat is priceless and I love him dearly.

How did I come upon this wonderful find? While shopping in Petsmart with my female Cocker, Lady LaNay, I met Mrs. Vivian Davidson. She had her male Cocker with her, so we took the time to visit. She said she had puppies at home, but they were to young to give away at that time. I asked how much she would be selling them for. “Oh, I’m not selling them, I just want to find them good homes.” You guessed it, I gave her my name and number and told her I was interested. Of course a free Cocker Spaniel was too much to hope for. I was sure she would loose my name and number by the time the puppies were ready to give away.

Sunday evening, April 6, 1997, I got the phone call asking if I were still interested. Yes! By all means! No time was wasted getting over to her apartment. My oh my, they all were so lovely and any one of them could steal my heart away. The little puppy they called Heart won me over. The lady of the house was almost in tears when I left….I did not realize that I had chosen her favorite.

Not only did they give me Heart, who could have sold for $200 - $250, but they also gave me a notebook with a copy of his parents’ petagree and his medical history. They included a bag of dog food, a chew toy, a ball, puppy Pet Tabs, dog treats and dog biscuits. Then she gave me a teddy bear for Heart to cuddle and Sheep skin material for his bed. I could tell Patrick came from a loving family.
